Why would we give away a $24.95 hardcover?
Honest answer: because once you cook three dinners from it, you'll want the spices we make. That's the whole business model. No catch, no "surprise" subscription, no fine print. The book is the ad — and it's a really good book.
Inside: the reverse-sear that makes a $9 supermarket strip taste dry-aged. The 6 marinades that cover every cut in the meat case. The 15-minute pan sauces that make guests ask what restaurant catered. Every recipe photographed, every one tested on weeknight timelines by people with jobs and kids.
The damaging admission: shipping actually costs us about $6.40. The extra covers the box and the person who packs it. We still lose money on every book — and make it back when about a third of readers fall in love with the rubs. Capitalism, working as intended.
